Shangxiajiu Pedestrian Street

Shangxiajiu is the older sister of Beijing Road, less polished and more local. The 1.2 km strip is lined on both sides by Republican-era qilou arcades (colonnaded shophouses), making it walkable even in pouring rain. The shopping skews local — bridal stores, fabric markets, tailors, sneaker shops — but the real reason to come is food. Three institutions stand out: Bingsheng Restaurant (冰室) for traditional Cantonese desserts (papaya milk, double-skin milk pudding), Yintai Restaurant (银记肠粉) for the silkiest rice rolls in the city, and Lianxianglou (莲香楼) for moon cakes and dim sum. Side alleys north of the street lead to the Old Sanyuanli market and the Cultural Park (an old amusement park with vintage charm). Most active 17:00 onwards. Closest Metro: Changshou Rd (Line 1, Exit D2) or Huangsha (Line 1/6, Exit B). 10-min walk to Shamian Island and Yongqing Fang.
