MapTrip (maptrip.ai) is an independent travel guide for foreigners visiting Chinese megacities. This page explains what data we collect, why, and how we treat it.
1. What we collect
- Trip data you create: itineraries you build in Plan-a-Trip are stored in your browser's localStorage. If you sign in, a copy is mirrored to our database so you can access it from another device.
- Account information: when you sign in via Clerk (Google / email), Clerk handles credential storage. We see only your user ID and profile metadata you choose to share.
- Optional email: if you email yourself an itinerary or leave feedback, we use that address for that single delivery and do not add it to any mailing list.
- Anonymous analytics: we may use PostHog to measure aggregate page views and feature usage. No personally identifiable information is tied to those events on our side.
- Feedback messages: anything you submit in the sidebar 留言板 is stored in our database alongside a hashed IP (used only for rate limiting). Operators read these in a daily email digest.
2. What we don't do
- We do not sell your data to anyone.
- We do not run third-party ads or display networks.
- We do not profile you across other websites.
3. Cookies & local storage
We use the browser's localStorage to persist your current trip between sessions on the same device. Clerk sets authentication cookies if you sign in. Our affiliate partners (Trip.com, Airalo, ExpressVPN, etc.) may set their own cookies when you click through their links — those are governed by their respective privacy policies, not ours.
4. Third-party services
We integrate with the following services that may receive some data:
- Vercel hosts the site and processes HTTP request metadata (IP, user-agent) for security and routing.
- Supabase stores your saved trips and feedback messages.
- Clerk handles authentication.
- Resend sends itinerary emails. Your email address is passed to Resend only for that delivery.
- DeepSeek & Anthropic may receive POI prompts you submit to the AI chat / itinerary review features.
- Amap (高德地图) provides map tiles and may log standard request metadata.
5. Affiliate links
We monetize through affiliate partnerships. See our Affiliate Disclosure for details. We do not receive personal information about you from affiliate partners.
6. Your rights
You may delete your trip from localStorage at any time via your browser's developer tools. If signed in, you may delete your account by emailing us, after which all server-side data tied to your user ID will be deleted within 14 days.
7. Children
MapTrip is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
8. Changes
We may update this policy as the product evolves. Material changes will be highlighted on the homepage for at least 14 days.
