Dapeng Fortress (Dapeng Suocheng) was built in 1394 as a Ming Dynasty coastal defense outpost guarding the Pearl River estuary against Japanese pirates. Today its stone gates, walls, and military residences are remarkably intact — one of the best-preserved Ming garrison towns on the coast. The fortress is essentially a still-living village: residents (mostly descendants of the original soldiers) farm and run guesthouses inside the walls. UNESCO-listed national heritage. Reaching it requires a 1.5-hour taxi from central Shenzhen or a 90-minute metro+bus combo; pair with Dameisha or Xichong Beach for a day-long east-coast loop. Entry 20 RMB. Visit on weekdays — weekend crowds turn it into a tourist set piece.

Ming-dynasty walled garrison facing the South China Sea. The most intact city-fortress in Guangdong — and almost no tourists.

明朝海防卫所,深圳别名'鹏城'来源。城墙保存完整,可登城东望大鹏湾,比西冲那边更值得。

Hour east of Futian by car. Combine with Yangmeikeng Beach for a full day. The Lai family ancestral halls inside the walls are striking.

The Shenzhen 99% of tourists never see. Ming dynasty stone walls, ocean breeze, and a tiny clutch of restored generals' mansions inside.

门票免费!自驾或E26路公交可达。深圳市民周末郊游首选,建议早上去避开下午人潮,午餐吃大鹏海鲜。
