Qibao Ancient Town is the most accessible water town from central Shanghai — Metro Line 9 stops right at Qibao Station, putting you 15 minutes from People's Square. The 'qi bao' (seven treasures) name refers to seven mythical relics once kept here; what you'll actually find is a small Ming-era canal grid, two old stone bridges, a temple, a couple of museums, and — most importantly — block after block of snack stalls. Local favorites: stinky tofu, fang gao (rice cake), tang yuan (sweet rice balls), Qibao-style braised duck. It's smaller, more compact, and noticeably less polished than Zhujiajiao — feels more authentically 'old Shanghai market.' Plan 2 hours, eat your way through. Free entry; some museums charge small fees.

Closest water town to Shanghai (Metro Line 9). Touristy but charming for a quick visit.

七宝古镇地铁直达!比朱家角小,但小吃地道。汤圆 + 老酒坊必试。

Cute mini water town but very crowded weekends. Go early morning weekday.
