Man Mo Temple (1847) is dedicated to the Civil Deity Man Cheong + the Martial Deity Mo Tai — pre-imperial-exam students prayed here for success in the imperial civil service exam, and martial artists prayed for success in conflicts. The hanging incense coils (massive spirals that burn for 2-3 weeks) are the iconic photo. Free entry. Photography allowed (no flash). Combine with Hollywood Road antique shops + the Central-Mid Escalator + Soho restaurants nearby. The temple is at the upper end of Hollywood Road; the Central-Mid Escalator drops you off two blocks below. Best weekday morning.
